Description & Tech Specs

D4 Series - Delta 2 Person Portaledge (D2P)

With attribution to John Middendorf's D4 Designs, High Mountain Gear presents the D4 Delta with a packaged total weight of 14 pounds 7 ounces for everything, haul bag, fly, and ledge. All parts are available separately, but ledges are at least sold with a haul bag that will accommodate a storm fly.

Dimensions: 78x54 at widest points

Using the D4 joiner system and hybrid diameter tubing, this ledge semi-self assembles and is the lightest 2-person production ledge available on the market. The fly is fully seam sealed with ballistic scuffs on the wall side for abrasion resistance.

-Metal cam buckles allow for quick tensioning of the ledge
-Daisy chain tieouts on each of the six tension straps
-HD shock cord through the tubes for durability
-EPX 200 Challenge Sailcloth bed recycled from plastic bottles

Ryan's Notes

Until you've been in a perpendicular ledge it's hard to understand the difference. This sits against the wall 90 degrees compared to normal wall ledges. Leveling this ledge is so easy and makes laying in it so comfortable.  And it feels so freeing to stand in the middle since the center of gravity is much further away.  Stand near the air side of a normal ledge and the wall side kicks up and you fall.  Plus you stand freely without straps in your way.  This design is better for sleeping and flagging (keeping it open all day while you use it as a belay ledge). I commissioned HMG to make the entire D4 Series for us to stock at HowNOT2 making us the first climbing store to carry this many portaledge variations (and their flys!) in stock.
