SLYDE is an ingenious adjuster for ropes that reduces impact forces. It can be used with ropes with a diameter between 9mm and 10mm.

The user can make their own system that can be adapted to their own unique use case. They're able to take into account the many variables such as the type of rope, connections, forces involved, weights, environmental conditions (wet, dust, snow… which make the rope stiffer and not slide as easily), wear, and what could happen during use.

When correctly evaluated, those parameters allow the creation of a fine-tuned system created precisely for their requirements. Remember that the free rope end must not slip out from the SLYDE, while giving enough length to absorb the greatest foreseen shock!

Because it is not possible to test all configurations and uses, this device is not a PPE and it has not been tested according to EN958.

It's a known application that individuals may use the Slyde as a personal anchor attachment point/lanyards, even KONG themselves shows it being used that way, (yet take note the climber is still on belay). However the device may fail to function correctly if a thin enough diameter rope is used and the loaded-strand flips position with the rope underneath as shown and discussed HERE (read the comment section). This can even happen with ropes within manufacturer spec, e.g. 9mm+. So make sure both strands are taut before weighting the device. Each individual should decide for themselves the scope of application they want to use the Slyde for while bearing in mind that it is not a PPE device, nor has EN 17520 Personal belay lanyards; EN958 "energy absorbing systems (EAS) for use in climbing on a Via Ferrata"; EN 354 (lanyard for fall arrest); or EN 358 (work positioning). 

Through testing we have found the Beal Joker 9.1mm rope provides the perfect balance. It slides enough to absorb significant force, without sliding too easily. We also sell it by the foot which makes it easy to create your ideal length with the Slyde. We highly recommend buying 3 more feet than your desired length to account for the required knots on either side.
