Tract Up
Description & Tech Specs
The Tract Up is Beal's pocket-sized ascender and rope clamp, designed for situations where a full-sized handled ascender is overkill. It runs on ropes from 8–11mm, making it compatible with most single ropes, half ropes, and canyoneering lines.
In blocker/progress capture mode it functions as a lightweight hauling assistant or chest roller companion. In rope clamp mode it's rated to a 4kN breaking load — enough for crevasse rescue, light hauling systems, and emergency ascending setups. It won't replace a full mechanical advantage haul system, but it punches well above its 86g weight for technical mountaineering and alpine rescue applications.
The cam engagement is smooth and the stainless teeth grip reliably across rope diameters without chewing through sheaths. The small frame clips directly to a carabiner without a handle getting in the way, which is exactly the point — this is a tool for tight rack situations where every gram and every centimeter matters.
